Aims and Objectives

Preventing food allergy in babies

  • Implement the ASCIA guidelines for infant feeding for food allergy prevention.

  • Provide evidence-based information and practical resources for parents about how to feed their baby the common allergy causing foods.

  • Provide evidence-based information and practical resources for parents about how to optimise eczema management to prevent food allergy developing.

  • Provide evidence-based information and education resources about infant feeding and optimising eczema management to help prevent food allergy in babies.

How are we working towards this?

  • Evidence-based practical information and resources for parents available from the Nip allergies in the Bub website.

  • Evidence-based information and resources for healthcare professionals available from the healthcare professional section of the Nip allergies in the Bub website.

  • Promoting key messages and resources to parents and healthcare professionals via social media.

  • Conducting webinars for parents and healthcare professionals.

  • Supporting the updating of the ASCIA guidelines for infant feeding for food allergy prevention.

  • Engaging with parents and healthcare professionals to identify resource needs.

  • Parents and healthcare professionals working with parents.

What we have achieved so far

  • Conducted 10 focus groups to identify the needs of parents and healthcare professionals to help prevent food allergy developing.

  • Coordinated the updating of the ASCIA guidelines for infant feeding for food allergy prevention in partnership with ASCIA and in collaboration with Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia and the National Allergy Centre of Excellence.

  • Developing new tools for parents based on focus group outcomes.

  • Developing new videos and animations to support parents.

  • Weekly social media posts to parents and healthcare professionals promoting the Nip allergies in the Bub website and resources.

Work in progress

  • Update of the Nip allergies in the Bub website to align with the updated ASCIA guidelines for infant feeding for food allergy prevention.

  • Implementation of new tools being developed based on the focus group outcomes.
