Shared Care for Allergy Bulletin March 2025 - Edition 11

Welcome to the 11th Edition of the Shared Care for Allergy Bulletin. This Bulletin keeps you up to date on the latest developments in the Shared Care for Allergy project. This project is a collaborative effort led by the National Allergy Council, the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia. Together we are working to improve access to quality care for Australians living with allergic conditions.

New! Implementation Roadmap April 2025 – May 2026

Take a look at our new implementation roadmap which shows the plan for the next 13 months of this national project. It shows the key activities that the National Allergy Council, ASCIA and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia are working on to improve access to quality allergy care. You can also see our past roadmap and what we have achieved so far.

Small Projects, Big Changes: How Pilot Programs are Making a Difference

A pilot project is a small test run of a new idea. Those ideas came from the Shared Care for Allergy project national consultations that were held in 2023. Pilot projects help people see what works and where changes need to be made. Right now, several of these pilot projects are happening across the county to improve allergy care in different ways. Together, they are helping us reach one big goal - making allergy care easier to access for all Australians, but particularly for people living in rural, regional and remote areas.

How do these pilot projects help?

Each pilot project focuses on one part of the problem. For example:

  • One pilot is testing allergy education and training for doctors in regional, rural and remote areas.
  • Another is testing out different ways to provide information to people on how to manage common conditions like eczema and hay fever as part of an online education journey.
  • Some are giving extra support to people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.

These pilot projects are being tested in real places with real people. Feedback is being collected to see what is working best. We are learning, testing and improving to build a better future for allergy care.

Understanding Allergy Care (NEW!)

An idea that came from the Shared Care for Allergy project national consultations in 2023, was to help people with allergies and their carers understand how the Australian health system works, who to go to for diagnosis and ongoing care, and what to expect in allergy care.

This is now available on the new Understanding Allergy Care section on the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia website. This was developed in collaboration with the National Allergy Council and the Shared Care Consumer Reference Group.
